Lions Mane Grow Bag Instructions
đ Lionâs Mane Mushroom Grow Bag Instructions
Thank you for purchasing your Lionâs Mane mushroom grow bag!
Your bag is fully colonized and ready to fruit. Follow these simple steps for a successful harvest.
𧰠What Youâll Need:
-
Your Lionâs Mane grow bag
-
A clean spray bottle with non-chlorinated water
-
A clean knife or scissors
-
A clean and well-ventilated space (no direct sunlight)
-
A carrier bag or storage container (If you choose either of these methods)
đ± How to Grow Your Lionâs Mane Mushrooms:
1. Prepare the Bag
-
Locate your preferred fruiting window on your grow bag.
-
Use a clean knife or scissors to cut an âXâ approximately 2â3 inches wide on one side of the bag to create an opening for mushrooms to grow through. Or you can cut out a small circle or square window, or simply slice the bag with a single line.
2. Position Your Bag
-
Place the bag upright in a location with indirect natural light or gentle artificial light. But light is not essential; it can be grown in complete darkness.
-
Avoid placing it in direct sunlight to prevent overheating or drying out.Â
-
Lions Mane mushrooms prefer temperature between 15-21CÂ
3. Maintain Humidity
-
Mist the grow bag and around the exposed grow area 2â3 times daily using non-chlorinated water. Donât spray the mycelium inside the grow bag directly (or the mushrooms as it grows), it is best to spray the area around the grow bag.
-
The goal is to keep the environment humid but not dripping wet.
-
You can place the Lions Mane grow kit inside a carrier bag, with the carrier bag on its side (the opening of the carrier bag facing out to create a temporary housing), then spray the sides of the carrier bag to help retain humidity. Or another option would be to place it inside an open plastic storage container, lay the storage container on its side (no need for the lid), then spray the walls of the container to maintain humidity. If you are going to try either of these methods it is crucial to clean the inside of the carrier bag or storage container first.
-
Lions Mane mushrooms prefers humidity between 80-90%
4. Provide Fresh Air
-
The fruiting window is enough to allow fresh air exchange, but maintain high humidity. It is best to ensure this is not blocked and can have access to the airflow in the room it is in.Â
-
Mushrooms need fresh air to develop properly and avoid excessive moisture buildup inside the bag.
5. Watch Your Mushrooms Grow
-
White pins (baby mushrooms) will appear in 7â14 days.
-
These will rapidly develop into the characteristic spiny clusters of Lionâs Mane mushrooms.
6. Harvest
-
Harvest when the spines are fully elongated (0.6 to 1.3cm), but before they start turning yellow or brownâusually about 5â10 days after pinning.
-
Gently twist or pull the mushroom cluster at the base where it meets the substrate, ensuring there is no remaining mushroom attached to the substrate (to avoid contamination or mould for subsequent flushes). Clean the substrate off the mushroom by cutting it off, and enjoy your first flush of Lions Mane!
7. Second Flush
-
After harvesting, continue misting and providing fresh air.
-
You may get 1â2 or even 3 additional flushes from the same bag.
-
The grow bag will rest for about a week between flushes, then it should start the process again.
đ§Œ Disposal
-
Once the bag stops producing, it can be composted or added to your garden soil as an organic amendment.
đĄ Quick Tips:
-
Keep the bag out of direct sunlight and avoid extreme temperatures.
-
Mist regularly to maintain humidity but donât over-saturate.
-
Ensure good air exchange to avoid mould or bacterial contamination.
-
Always wash your hands and scissors/knife thoroughly before working with the kit to avoid contamination.
-
You should not directly spray the mycelium or mushrooms of the lion's mane grow kit. Itâs best to spray the grow kit, box/carrier bag or air around the mushroom to maintain humidity. Directly wetting the fruiting body of the mushroom while it grows can cause it to spoil or inhibit growth.
-
Lions mane mushrooms need humidity to thrive, but they also need proper air circulation so bear this in mind.
-
If mushrooms look dry or slow-growing, increase humidity with more misting.
